This page started out with our Herbert family, both here in the U.S. and in Wales, but is now focusing on our Welsh immigrants to America. Known immigrants are Lewis Jones and wife Elizabeth Gibbon, their nephews, the brothers Edward & William Herbert, and their nephew Gwilyn Herbert. Brother John Herbert also immigrated, but appears to have died in the U.S. about 1895, and his wife and children returned to Wales. Lewis Jones and his wife Elizabeth Gibbon immigrated about 1847-48, shortly after they married in 1847. They went first to Pennsylvania, where daughter Margaret was born, and then to Wheeling, West Virginia.
Edward Herbert (1848-1884) immigrated from Wales about 1870 to Wheeling, West Virginia, to work for his uncle Lewis Jones. He married Harriet Jobe, also from Wales, ca. 1875.
William Herbert (1850-1933) and Margaret Hopkins (1852-1928) immigrated from Wales in 1880, first to Ohio, and then to Alabama, where they had their last home in Bessemer. William and Margaret's daughter Maggie Herbert married Charles Hager. Click here to check out the Hager Family.
Gwilyn Henry Herbert (1892-1953) and wife Vera May Austin immigrated from Wales to Los Angeles in 1922/1923.
